What is CBD?
What is CBD?
CBD is a naturally occurring compound found in the cannabis plant. It is the second most prominent compound behind THC, but unlike THC, CBD is non-psychoactive, so it will not get you ‘high’. Although there is much to be learned about this amazing compound, results from recent studies suggest that CBD may provide a safe and powerful natural treatment for many health issues. These include:
Anxiety, Depression, Fibromyalgia, Epilepsy, Chronic Pain, Inflammation, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, Nausea, Psoriasis, Substance Abuse Withdrawal, Insomnia, ADHD, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Cancer-related symptoms.
CBD also contains antioxidants and is a powerful neuroprotectant.
How Does CBD Work?
All humans have what is called an endocannabinoid system (ECS). In fact all mammals including dogs and cats have an ECS and cannabis actually got its name from this system. The ECS is a biological system within each of us which contains receptors called endocannabinoids. These receptors consist of CB1 and CB2 and are attached to our brain, organs and central nervous system. The ECS controls some of our most vital life functions including our immune system, memory, appetite, sleep pattern, mood and pain sensation.
When CBD is ingested the cannabinoids attach to these receptors which then encourages homeostasis, reduces pain and decreases inflammation.
